The US has designed Ukraine security guarantees similar to NATO guarantees, but without the entry of the country into the block, AFP reported on Saturday, writes TASR. As one of the security guarantees for Ukraine, the US Party proposed a guarantee of the NATO Treaty of Article 5, allegedly agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a diplomatic source for AFP after a call between US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Greenable and European leaders.

Article 5 of the NATO Treaty speaks of collective defense. It provides that an armed attack against one or more parties in Europe or North America will be considered an attack against all parties. In practice, this means that if one NATO country is attacked, the other countries are obliged to provide its assistance, including the use of the armed forces, if they consider it necessary. Article 5 has been activated only once, after terrorist attacks on September 11 in the United States.
