The president of the United States, and the agent of Russia, completed his meeting at approximately three hours of negotiations, as confirmed by Kremlin. The meeting began at 4:30 pm Brasilia, after a warm greeting between the two leaders on arrival.

With smiles, Trump and Putin greeted and posed for photos in front of the press before heading to the military base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, place of the summit. Trump applauded Putin as he descended from the Russian presidential plane and received signs of approval in return. Already at the base, they posed again for photos alongside advisers and secretaries, but did not make public statements. This was the first summit between the two countries since the beginning of the war in Ukraine in February 2022, and also the first duty on the two leaders since 2018.

Before the meeting, the US press pointed out that a more assertive and experienced Trump could face as equal to equal, former KGB chief and Russian leader for a total of 25 years. Despite criticism and threats exchanged in recent months, both have shown optimism in the eve of the meeting.

Putin praised Washington’s “sincere efforts” to seek a solution to the conflict in Ukraine and said he believed the meeting with Trump could pave the way for “world peace.” However, it considered that this would depend on an agreement to limit the use of strategic weapons, including nuclear, signaling a possible negotiation in exchange for a ceasefire.
