Lawyer Fábio Pagnozzi, who represents federal deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), said that the parliamentarian would serve her sentence in Brazil. He said that Zambelli left the country for considering the 10 years in prison imposed on him by the Supreme Court (STF) “exorbitant” and “ideological”. The speech took place in an interview with GloboNews This Friday, 15.
“She (Carla Zambelli) is not opposed to serving time in Brazil. What Carla has always said is that she wants to be in a country in which she can be tried by impartial people. So, the current government moment here (in Brazil) is where Carla does not want to be judged or serving sentence. It really runs away from the exorbitant penalties and ideological penalties of the Supreme.
Zambelli was sentenced to 10 years in prison and the loss of his mandate as a deputy for being the intellectual mentor of a hacker attack on the National Council of Justice (CNJ). At the time, a false arrest warrant against Judge Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court, was inserted into the organ system.

Zambelli’s conviction should be plus five years. In another process, the Supreme judges the parliamentarian for pursuing journalist Luan Araújo with a gun in hand on the eve of the 2022 election. The court has already formed a majority to condemn her, and only Kassio Nunes Marques voted opposite on Friday.
Before Zambelli was arrested for her first conviction, she fled to Italy, a country in which she is a citizen. The deputy remained two months at large in the European nation, until she was reported by a local deputy and arrested by the police. She is currently in the Germana Stefanini women’s prison.
An extradition process runs against the deputy and can send her back to Brazil. However, as the Estadão Demonstrated, the whole process may take up to two years. Zambelli’s defense asks her to wait for this period in house arrest and claims that the congressman has medical conditions that cannot be treated in jail.

Pagnozzi stated that the deputy is on hunger strike and, therefore, was ill during an extradition hearing held by the Court of Appeal in Italy, last Wednesday, 13. She would have fallen and beat her head as she walked to the meeting.
“The deputy had two suicide attempts, was hospitalized at the time of the elections after the episode of the gun, the deputy has a problem in the heart, the deputy removed a brain tumor a few years ago,” says her lawyer. According to him, the medical reports will be presented to the judge responsible on August 18 and, on the 27th, the magistrate will define whether she is awaiting extradition at home, semi -open or in jail.
