On Sunday, the Turkish authorities ordered an evacuation of the inhabitants of seven villages in the Gallipoli Peninsula in the European part of the country, Where firefighters are struggling with a strong fire, whose spread was helped by strong winds, AFP reported.

The fire broke out on Saturday and spread rapidly. On the night for Sunday, about 250 inhabitants were evacuated from five villages. People from two other villages evacuated during the day on Sunday. The authorities have informed that for the time being the fire into the evacuated areas did not spread and did not endanger the military cemeteries on the peninsula.

The province of Canakkale is popular among tourists visiting the ancient ruins of Troy and the Gallipoli Peninsula, where thousands of soldiers fell during the First World War in the fighting.

Turkish Minister of Agriculture Ibrahim Yumakli informed on social networks that the fire is extinguishing 12 aircraft and 18 helicopters along with 343 fire -fighting vehicles. 1300 persons are involved in extinguishing. According to the website of the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), 192 forest fires were recorded this year in Turkey, destroying more than 110,373 hectares of land.

Experts say that climate change results in more frequent and more intense forest fires and other natural disasters. In connection with this, they also called on Turkey to take measures to solve this problem.
