One book was returned almost 82 years after being loaned by the San Antonio Public Library in Texas, accompanied by a letter stating that “Grandma will no longer be able to pay for him.”

The work is “Your Child, His Family, and Friends (his son, his family and friends, in free translation), by the Marriage and Family Counselor Frances Bruce Strain, was loaned in July 1943 and returned in June this year by an Oregon person, the library said.

The book was a guide for parents to help their children sail in personal relationships. It was removed when the person’s father was 11 years old.

“After my father’s recent death, I inherited some boxes of books he left behind,” wrote the person in a letter that was shared by the Instagram library and signed with the initials PAAG.

“The book must have been loaned by my grandmother, Maria del Socorro Aldrete Flores (Cortez),” wrote the person.

“That year, she moved to Mexico City to work at the US embassy. She must have taken the book with her, and about 82 years later, he ended up in my inauguration.”

The relative who returned the book even played in the message about the delay for the return: “I hope there is no fine for delay because Grandma can no longer pay for him.”

According to the library administration, the book is in good condition and will be exposed in the city’s central library during the coming weeks. Then, it will be donated to friends of the San Antonio Public Library and sold for the benefit to the installation.

The library also reported that it eliminated the late fines in 2021. The back cover of the book brought the warning that the late fine was three cents a day. Without considering inflation, the fine would reach more than $ 16,000 in the corrected amounts.

The latest book record that was returned to the Guinness World Records is Sidney Sussex College at Cambridge University, England, in 1956. He was loaned in 1668, about 288 years earlier. Also in this case, no fine has been charged. (With information from the Associated Press)
