The philosopher and writer Denis Lion Rosenfield, during participation in the program ‘WW Special’, CNNhe evaluated the political situation of the country and stated that “we are in institutional dysfunctionality, but that there is no more threat of coup.”

The program, which airs this Sunday (17), discussed whether Brazilian democracy needs Saviors. In one of his lines, Rosenfield criticized what he considers an exacerbation of powers by the judiciary, especially by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Court (STF).

“There was a time when the performance of Minister Alexandre de Moraes was positive to defend democracy, as was the performance of the military, especially the army summit,” he said. However, for the philosopher, the scenario changed dramatically.

“He [Moraes] You cannot now think that you should use the same powers that he was attributed to that moment, at a time when the threat of the coup has disappeared, “Rosenfield said.

For the philosopher, the processes must have beginning, middle and end, and Minister Moraes “cannot act as a delegate, prosecutor and judge at the same time,” he criticized. “He should defend the rules, which he is not doing. He exorbitated at the time of no exception,” he added.

Rosenfield also defended a revision of the penalties applied to those involved in the acts of January 8, 2023, suggesting that calling the events of that day attempted coup is not appropriate, as the coup, he said, was aborted by the military before President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT).

“There was no blow at that moment. Calling that attempt at a blow, it can’t.” The coup was aborted by the military before Lula’s inauguration. And they [militares] They defended, not being petistas, the constitutional order, ”he said.

In this context, Rosenfield proposes that “the articulators and coordinators” of the coup attempt are exemplary punished, and that there is no widespread amnesty, but a partial amnesty or a review of judgments with a new dosimetry for other participants.

“The prisoners of January 8 should be released by the end of the year. For a long time they have been in prison under conditions that do not correspond to the rule of law,” he concluded.
