Find out how lavender and cinnamon eliminate the ants from soil of the plants

The ants that slip into the soil are not only annoying, but they can also disturb the roots and create an unhealthy micro -room. It is not uncommon to find them right near the pots on the balcony or around delicate plants, where they form small colonies difficult to eliminate. One could immediately think of chemical insecticides, but in addition to not always being effective, they often end up damaging the health of plants and the balance of the soil. This is why many prefer to opt for natural solutions, easy to prepare and with a pleasant perfume.

So why not start immediately from a concrete gesture? The next time you notice the invaded soil, try sprinkling a little cinnamon or inserting chills of dried lavender near the vase: an immediate remedy that can already make a difference.

Because ants invade the soil

Interestingly, ants do not arrive by chance. Often they are attracted by sugary residues, by other small appearances such as aphids or simply by the humidity of the soil. Their presence is not always negative, but when they begin to form galleries around the roots, the plants are affected. The risk is that the ground dry faster and that the roots remain less stable. In the garden or on the terrace the scene is always the same: you can see a small path of black dots that disappear and re -emerge among the grains of earth. It is almost hypnotic, but in the long run it can compromise the growth of the plant. Hence the need to find natural remedies that do not ruin the ecosystem, but that remove insects in a delicate way.

Cinnamon, for example, has an intense aroma that disturbs the orientation of ants. He does not kill them, but pushes them to change his way. Lavender, with its balsamic perfume, has a similar effect and in addition it gives a pleasant fragrance even to those who take care of the plants.

The natural remedy with cinnamon and lavender

The beauty of this method is simplicity. There is no need to prepare complex mixtures or buy expensive products: two common ingredients are enough and within everyone’s reach. It is almost surprising to think that such an elementary gesture can change the balance of the vase. And then, let’s face it, using cinnamon and lavender makes the air around the plants even more pleasant. But how to use them at best?

Here’s how to do it:

  • Cinnamon powder: sprinkled directly on the soil or around the pot, creates a sort of olfactory barrier that ants tend to avoid.
  • Cinnamon sticks: Insert in the ground like small sticks, gradually release the aroma.
  • Dried lavender: you can spread the dry flowers near the roots or create small bags to be spoiled slightly.
  • Lavender essential oil: a few drops diluted in water and sprayed on the soil works as a natural repellent.

It is a non -invasive approach, which lets the ground breathe and at the same time keeps unwanted guests away. Of course, this is not a definitive solution such as chemicals, but is more delicate and respectful of the domestic environment.

Practical tips to keep the soil healthy

Prevention is always the best card. If you keep the balanced and clean soil, it is more difficult for ants to decide to colonize it. A few small tricks can really make the difference: for example, prevent sugary residues or crumbs near the pots, check from time to time the presence of aphids that attract them, and do not leave stagnation of water that transform the soil into an ideal environment for them. Also alternating the use of cinnamon and lavender can be useful, because insects tend to get used to smells if they are always the same.

It is curious to think how a pleasant perfume for man can be unwelcome to these small insects. Sometimes nature surprises precisely for its simplicity: with few elements a balance is obtained that promotes the life of plants without the need for forcing.
