Fires: Active Guard Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan

The Guard House activated the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan due to non -dominated fires in the county and in neighboring municipalities.

The Guard House activated this Saturday night the Municipal Emergency and Civil Protection Plan (PEMPC), due to the “uninquited” fires that draw in the county and in the border municipalities, “whose duration may extend.”

The plan was triggered at 8:00 pm today and will be in force until 23:59 on Monday, and can be extended according to the evolution of the situation, according to the order of the president of the municipality, Sérgio Costa, to which Lusa had access.

The measure is justified with “the uninquired fires that draw up in the municipality of Guarda and Bordering municipalities, the duration of which may extend for a period of 24 hours or greater than damage to populations, goods and environment and, therefore, justify the immediate adoption of exceptional prevention, planning and information measures.”

Tonight has several active fire fronts tonight, some of which have progressed from Sabugal, where they remain 181 operational, supported by 51 vehicles, according to the Site of the National Emergency Authority and Civil Protection (Anepc).

On the opposite side of the county continues to resolve the fire that began on Friday in Pêra do Baço, due to rekindies.

In this fire, 159 firefighters and 59 vehicles, according to Anepc. There are still In the municipalities of Pinhel and Sabugal, which mobilize more than a hundred firefighters.

With the activation of the Municipal Emergency Plan, “the resources of civil protection agents and municipal officials, under the law, may be mobilized for the indicated situation”.

During the effective date of the PMEPC, “it should be ready, under the responsibility of the Municipal Civil Protection Service, the machinery for work in rural spaces already hired to individuals, to support the rural fires in the county and if necessary.”

“All the material and human resources of the Guarda municipality may also be mobilized to support combat operations, aftermath and rural fires surveillance in the county”, read in the order.

The plan also determines the dismissal of municipal employees who are firefighters from the active framework of the three corporations of the county (Guarda, Gonçalo and Famalicão da Serra).

These measures should apply “immediate and fully”, and the municipality may prohibit access, circulation and permanence within all spaces classified in the municipal master plan as forest spaces, with the exceptions provided for by law.

The Guard House may also ask GNR to “reinforce surveillance” in all rural and forest spaces in the territory.
