Arthur’s passage through Grêmio
Arthur reached the base categories of Tricolor still young. He was promoted to the main cast in 2016, but it was in 2017, under the command of Renato Portaluppi, that the steering wheel consolidated himself as one of the main names of the team.
That season, the athlete was in the conquest of Libertadores, being an absolute starter in midfield and highlight in the decisive phases of the tournament. The great performance in the tournament projected him internationally, which accelerated the interest of major European clubs.
In 2018, Arthur was sold to Barcelona for about 33 million euros, becoming the biggest negotiation in Grêmio’s history so far.
Arthur’s trajectory outside Brazil
Arthur Melo arrived in Catalonia with high expectations, being compared to historical idols such as Xavi Hernández due to his technical style and ability to dictate the rhythm of the game. In the first season, Arthur was widely used by Ernesto Valverde. However, muscle injuries began to affect the sequence, which impaired evolution in the club.
In 2020, he was involved in a negotiation with Juventus, in an exchange with midfielder Miralem Pjanić. The passage through the Italian team began promising, but again the injuries and the strong competition in the midfield limited the appearances.
Seeking more minutes on the field, the Brazilian was loaned to Liverpool, from England, in 2022. However, Arthur played only one game for the Reds.
In 2023, the player had a new chance in Europe when he was loaned to Fiorentina, where he played in 48 matches throughout the season. Then he was passed on to Girona, from Spain, where he played 15 times between January and May 2025.
