The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party and former Minister of Internal Affairs, José Luís Carneiro, asked the Prime Minister to urgently convene the National Civil Protection Commission, following the current situation of the fires. In an interview with SIC Notícias, he criticized the government leader for “eclipse in the midst of such a crisis.”
After mourning the deaths and injured serious by this week’s fires, José Luís Carneiro criticized “scarcity and uncoordination of means” and asked Luís Montenegro to summon “the most urgently possible” the National Civil Protection Commission, where he should take over political command with several ministers.
“It must have with you the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Minister of Defense, the Minister of Economy, of Agriculture, Cohesion …. to give more effectiveness to the fight against fires,” he said.
