When to collect zucchini? You will probably be disappointed, but there is no one good answer to this question, but it is not worth delaying too long, because it usually results in 40-50 days after sowing.

The basic criterion you should pay attention to in order to be able to assess whether vegetables are suitable for collecting is their size. It should be average and be about 15-20 cm (with the most popular varieties). Then the zucchini are usually mature, but still young, firm and do not have too many unnecessary seeds.

Another important issue is the frequency of collections, because, contrary to appearances, zucchini should not be collected once and in batches. It’s best to do it every 2-3 days, especially when the days are warm and sunny, because then the fruit ripens expressly.

Regular harvest of fruit also has another advantage. This is an additional chance for more abundant crops, because regular removal of them from the flower beds will relieve zucchini and stimulates it to continue flowering.

If the zucchini is firm and elastic, when you press it gently, it means that she is ready to collect. Her skin should have a natural, intense shade. It cannot have clearly visible cracks, discoloration or bottom wood or tail (then it can be old and tasteless).

Zucchini harvesting technique also matters. Fruits should always be taken from the beds in the evenings or early in the morning, when the sun is not yet intensively. It’s best to pick them gently with a sharp knife or pruning shearsleaving a small piece of tail.

Never twist the vegetables with your hand, because you will only destroy shoots and further yields will not be abundant. After collecting courgettes, move to a cool, airy and shady place. It’s best to keep them in the chest, but try to use within 7-10 days.
