Oscar nominated, Stamp built a career marked by versatility. Acted in productions as “Theorem” (1968), de Pier Paolo Pasolini, “A season in hell” (1971) and success “Priscilla, the Queen of the Desert” (1994), in which he played a trans woman. More recently, it was in “Operation Valkyrie” (2008), alongside Tom Cruise, and in “The agents of destination” (2011), com Matt Damon.
In a note, the family pointed out that “He leaves an extraordinary body of work, both as an actor and as a writer, who will continue to inspire for many years. We ask for privacy at this time of mourning.”.
Who was Terence Stamp
Born in 1938 at the East End of London, son of a sailor, Stamp survived the bombing of World War II before winning a scholarship at a theater school.
In the 1960s, it became one of the most celebrated faces of British cinema, acting in “Far from it, the forgetfulness” (1967), alongside Julie Christie, with whom she lived a relationship. He also dated model Jean Shripton and inspired photographer David Bailey.
After a period removed from the spotlight to study yoga in India, he returned to the cinema with his most striking role, General Zod’s. The career has extended for decades, including works with directors such as Federico Fellini, Tim Burton and Brian Singer.
Stamp was also recognized for his elegance, charisma and the cultural influence he had on and out of screens.
