The Caribbean faces the consequence of Hurricane Erin, who intensified to the fourth category. Tropical storm conditions also threaten the Turks and Caicos archipelago and southeast Bahamas.

Strong Hurricane Erin hit parts of the Caribbean and, according to predictions, intensive rainfall can cause tidal floods and landslides. On Sunday evening, the “extremely dangerous” hurricane of the fourth category with a maximum wind speed of 215 kilometers per hour was intensified, TASR writes, according to AP and AFP reports.

Meteorologists warn that they will intensify and expand even more in the next 12 hours. It is expected to bring tropical storm conditions to the Turks and Caicos archipelago and southeast Bahamas on Monday night.

There should be a gradual weakness. “However, Erin will continue to increase its scope and will remain a large and dangerous hurricane of great power until at least mid this week,” added the US National Hurricane (NHC) National Center in Miami.

According to the NHC, on Sunday at 23.00 local time was about 205 kilometers east of the island of Grand Turk. On Sunday they hit the external zones of the hurricane part of Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands, where they caused electricity outages for approximately 147,000 subscribers, Luma Energy reported. More than 20 flights were canceled. The coastal guard later allowed the reopening of all ports in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands after the wind and rain weakened.

Erin, the first Atlantic hurricane this season, briefly strengthened on Saturday to the fifth category with a wind reaching 260 kilometers per hour, but later weakened. He reached the highest category just over 24 hours after it intensified from the first category. According to scientists, such rapid intensification is increasingly common due to global warming.
