The recent drop in a drug trafficking network in Blackpool, UK, had an unlikely agent: it was Mango, a parrot, who “chipped” the criminals.
The lengthery parrot has been trained to imitate the language of a street trafficker. Adam Garnett’s girlfriend Shannon Hilton, the alleged leader of the criminal network, and was taught to say phrases such as “Two for 25” (“two by 25”), an indicator of quantity and price directed to drug buyers.
Parrot videos were recently presented as proof. They showed him to interact with money notes and to repeat common expressions of the world of trafficking. They were fundamental clues to make more than a dozen arrests.
Garnett, who drove the criminal scheme from prison, between 2023 and 2024, had his cell equipped with mobile phones, Wi-Fi Routers and Mango recordings.
Among the other members of the network were Dalbir Sandhu, which recorded transactions such as a documentary, and Jason Gerrand. Gareth Burgess, in turn, would stand out for boldness: it came up in videos showing piles of money while reciting the crimes he had committed.
The overly exhibitionist behavior of the network made police work more straightforward, as each video and publication on the networks worked as material proof. In total, 15 group members admitted to fault in court. Garnett was sentenced to 19 years and six months in prison, while Hilton received a 12 -year sentence. The sentences of the remaining elements ranged from five to ten years.
Two members, Chloe Stott and Ryan Black, have escaped the sentence and are now escapebeing sought by the authorities.
