The Moroccan feminist activist Ibtissam Betty Lachgar was placed this Sunday in police custody after publishing a photo on her account on social networks in which she appears wearing a shirt with phrases considered offensive to God. Specifically, the LGTBIQ+ activist put a garment that put: “Allah is a lesbian.”
According to a statement from the king’s prosecutor before the Rabat Court of First Instance, the Prosecutor’s Office ordered the opening of an investigation into the matter. Insulting divinity is considered a crime in Morocco.
The same source indicates that the published image was accompanied by “a publication that contains an insult to the Islamic religion.”
“Given the imperative nature of the investigation, it was decided to put the person involved in police custody,” reads the note.

Betty Lachgar, co -founder of the alternative movement for individual freedoms (Mali), published on July 31 on his account on social networks a photo in which he appears wearing a shirt with the expression in Arabic and in English: “Allah is lesbian” (Allah is a lesbian), and accompanied the image with a message in which he described the “fascist” and “misogynist.”
Lachgar’s publication caused disapproving reactions on social networks. Numerous Internet users expressed their indignation for the content and asked that legal measures be taken against the activist.
Mali is known by initiatives considered provocative in Morocco, as the organization in 2013 of the celebration of “a collective kiss” or others in defense of individual freedoms.
