The governor of São Paulo, (Republicans), has been accused by social movements and opposition groups of emptying popular participation in conferences that discuss public policies on topics such as racial equality, population rights and women.
Events are official and discuss actions to mitigate problems such as gender inequality and hate crimes.
Complaints include a lack of financial support for the displacements of participants from the interior of the state and, in the case of the women’s conference, the decision to remote it through an application.
Regarding the conferences of racial and LGBTQIA++, there are elected delegates to represent their respective municipalities.
For Lourdes Andrade Simões, a World March of women, the virtual environment will bring damage to formulation of proposals.
“First, we do not have digital culture yet. There are also chances of technical failures and compromises the participation of women who live in municipalities where the internet signal is terrible,” says Lourdes, a member of CNDM, the Women’s Rights Council linked to the Ministry of Women.
“The conference is an important time to discuss in the plenary, but in a physical space we have a chance to exchange experiences and seek alternatives,” he continued.

In a statement, the state government says it is responsible for costing the site, infrastructure and food during the official times of the event, but that the hosting expenses are personal.
Tarcisio management has said it “reiterates its commitment to legality and efficiency in the use of public resources”.
The Secretariat of Policies for Women, in turn, defended the digital platform as a way to expand female participation and inclusion.
