It was supposed to be a party day for Santos. Prior to the initial whistle of the meeting with Vasco for the Brazilian Championship, at the Morumbis stadium, in São Paulo, star Neymar received a tribute on the field for completing 250 matches with the team’s shirt. The party ended there.
At 18 minutes of the first half, Lucas Piton opened the scoring for the Rio de Janeiro team. And while Santos was able to hold the pressure throughout the first stage, on the return of the locker room the gate opened.
David Correa scored 7 minutes into the second half. Soon after, at 9, after the wrong way out of goalkeeper Brazão and Lambança in the area, Philippe Coutinho made his first – he would score again at 17. The video referee recorded Souza’s Touch in the area, and Rayan scored a penalty at 15.
With 23 minutes on the clock, Tchê Tchê received in the area and kicked low, with no chance for Brazil.
Santos even marked at 37 with Guilherme, but the bid was annulled by impediment.
Part of the more than 54,400 fans present at Morumbis began to leave the stadium after the fourth goal. Others, members of the Organized of the Santos, decided to turn their backs to the field in protest.
After the final whistle, Neymar received a hug from the opposing coach, Fernando Diniz, and cried, disappointed with the club’s performance.
