Who has never left the house hurry and only then realized that he left the bank card on the table? For many Portuguese, this situation no longer represents a problem. With the new features available at the ATM boxes, it is today possible to perform operations without using the physical card, just having the mobile phone with you.
The system that changed the bank routine
In Portugal there are about 12 thousand boxes. Since the installation of the first, at Rossio in Lisbon, in 1985, the system has been growing and reinventing itself. According to information from SIBS, the network’s management entity, the ATM already allows more than 90 different operations, far beyond money surveys. Service payments, mobile charges, transfers and even buying shows are some of the options.
The next step was to integrate digital solutions into the everyday users, paving the way to a service that today became indispensable: MB Way.
MB Way as an alternative to the physical card
According to the official MB Way website, more than three million Portuguese use the application to make payments, immediate transfers and surveys, fully dismissing the physical card. The app, available on any mobile phone, allows you to associate the bank card and directly access the multibanco features through digital authentication.
How the Cardless ATM
To access a Cardless ATM box, just load on the green key of the terminal, select the “Use ATM” option and read the QR code presented with the MB Way application. Then it is only necessary to authenticate with PIN, fingerprint or facial recognition. The menu is then unlocked and you can make operations the same way you would with the card.
Raise money without the card
The functionality also extends to surveys. The process is simple: In the MB Way application, the associated card is selected, it is indicated to “raise money” and the intended amount is defined. The app generates a ten -digit code that can be used on any crowd.
This code can be used by own or shared with someone else. Who receives it introduces the number in the terminal and raises the money immediately. The code has limited validity, which adds a safety layer to the operation.
Total security and compatibility
All the country’s crowd boxes are already prepared for this functionality, according to SIBS. Operations are protected by biometric authentication or user’s personal PIN, which ensures high safety standards.
A system in constant evolution
The bet on these solutions confirms the multibanco modernization strategy. The public newspaper recalls that Portugal was one of the first European countries to make such a wide range of operations available on a network of automatic terminals, and integration with the mobile phone is seen as another step in the same path.
With the growth of mobile and without contact, it seems that the future will increasingly pass through the smartphone. The once indispensable physical card may soon become just an option between several.
