The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) sent on Monday (18) a defense to the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and asked the body to reconsider the open commercial investigation against the based section 301 of the 1974 Commerce Law.
“Brazil urges USTR to reconsider the opening of this investigation and to engage in a constructive dialogue. Unilateral measures to the section 301 are in danger of weakening the multilateral trade system and may have adverse consequences for bilateral relations,” said Itamaraty. “Brazil is still open to consultations and reaffirms its commitment to resolution of questions with the resolution of commercial issues by cooperative and legal means,” he added.
The Brazilian government also stated that the country maintains a commercial regime “open and based on rules” and that Brazilian practices are “reasonable, fair, equitable and non -discriminatory”.
The investigation into Brazil, pursuant to Section 301 of the 1974 Commerce Law, was announced on July 15. The commercial representation of the accuses the country in six topics:
- Access to the Ethanol Market of Brazil
- Illegal deforestation
- Failures in the supervision of anti -corruption measures
- Unjust preferred tariffs
- Protection of intellectual property
- Policies related to digital trade and electronic payment services, which includes Pix
