Melgarbe and CCDR Algarve organize honey contest at Fatacil

The Mel do Algarve contest holds its 38th edition this year, in an initiative that distinguishes the excellence of honey produced in the region. The event, organized by Melgarbe – Association of Apiculture of the Algarvio Fundamentory, in partnership with the Algarve Coordination and Regional Development Commission (CCDR Algarve), through the area of agriculture and fisheries, and the Lagoa City Council, will take place next August 24, at 10:30, under the 44th edition of Fatacil.

In a statement released, CCDR Algarve points out that “the beekeeping sector is a fundamental pillar of Algarve agriculture, not only for the recognized production of quality honey, but also for the contribution to the preservation of biodiversity and the sustainability of ecosystems”.

They can participate in the legally registered beekeepers and packagers, presenting honey samples of Algarve origin. “Sample registration and delivery are open until 17:00 on August 21, 2025, at Melgarbe facilities, in the CCDR Algarve building in Patacão – Faro,” says the organization.

Admitted samples will be evaluated by an independent jury, based on sensory analysis criteria that include color, taste, aroma and global appreciation, rewarding the best hions in the region.

According to CCDR Algarve, this initiative “seeks to contribute to the affirmation of the value of honey Algarve, bring producers and consumers closer, in a space that celebrates the identity and agricultural wealth of the Algarve”.

The regulation is available.
