The Federal Police carried out, on Tuesday, an operation against suspects of diverting more than $ 50 million from the Fund for Maintenance and Development of Basic Education (Fundeb) in cities of Maranhão. Cars, jewelry and $ 54,000 in kind were seized at the investigation house.
Police are investigating suspicion of fraud in municipal bids held between 2021 and 2025. According to calculation, part of the contracts fueled with Fundeb resources was returned to the public servants involved in the scheme.
The PF served 45 search and seizure warrants in six cities of Maranhão, including the capital, São Luís, and in Teresina, Piauí.
