Ukrainian President Volodymyr Genskyj is ready to meet Russian leader Vladimir Putin without imposing conditions in advance. Greens said this after Monday’s interviews he had in the White House with US President Donald Trump and European leaders, TASR writes based on DPA and AFP reports.
“I confirmed – and all European leaders supported me – that we are ready for a bilateral meeting with Putin,” said Greeding to the Ukrainian media in front of the White House after negotiations. “We are ready for any format,” he added, but said it would have to be a leaders’ level meeting.
Greeding further said that “whatever happens”, he should meet Putin to start looking for a way to end the war. According to his own negotiations, he would respond to such negotiations without preliminary conditions, as Moscow would respond to the request of Kiev, according to his words “a hundred” of its own requirements. At the same time, however, he described the previous request of Kiev for the ceasefire prior to start peace negotiations.
The Ukrainian President on the social network X added that Trump supported the meeting (Ukraine and Russia) at the level of leaders. “Such a meeting is needed to solve sensitive questions,” he added.
Greeding to journalists indicated that it was Putin, who suggested that the bilateral Russian-Ukrainian meeting first take place and then a three-sided meeting with Trump. Sky News states that Trump claimed to be a three -sided meeting before Monday’s call with Putin. After the call, however, he announced that it would only happen after the meeting of Putin with Zelensky.
The Ukrainian leader also said he was discussing security guarantees with Trump and European leaders, receiving important signals from the US.
According to CNN, he reported that during the interviews in the White House there was a proposal that Ukraine would buy through the program of its European allies – as a condition of security guarantees from the US – US weapons worth $ 90 billion or produced drones, part of which would be bought by the US. However, he added that this is still being discussed and the parties have not yet reached an agreement.
This agreement, or details of security guarantees, will be elaborated in some way “in some way next week or within ten days”.
