Guerrillas supported by Matsetas and axes have killed at least 52 civilians in the Benny and Lubero areas of his Eastern People’s Republic in recent days, according to local officials and executives.
The guerrillas of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) took revenge killing the civilians after the defeats suffered by the LD Congo Armed Forces, said Elongo Kontua Mark, a spokesman for the army.
“When they arrived, they woke up the residents, gathered them in one place, tied them with ropes, and began slaughtering them with mats and axes,” said Macaire Sivikounoula, the local leader of the Baper area of Lubero.
About 30 citizens were killed only in the village of Melia, according to Allen Kigueway, the Lubero military commander, who spoke to the Reuters agency. “Among the victims were children and women who cut their throats in their homes. Many houses were set on fire, “he added.
A spokesman for the UN mission to the Congo Congo (Monusco) said the dead were at least 52, of which eight were women and two children. The report can prove to be heavier, as investigations into identifying other victims continue.
ADFs are one of the many armed organizations that seek to occupy territories in the rich in eastern Congo deposits. At the end of July, guerrillas killed 38 people in a church in that area.
