Surfinies under the sun give spectacular balconies and gardens, but it takes little to see them dry. There are common mistakes that often be committed without realizing it and that put their luxuriant flowering at risk.
The pending petunias, known as Surfinies, are among the most loved plants in spring and summer. They affect the bright colors and the waterfall that create in pots and planters. However, the intense heat and sunny exhibitions can turn into a double -edged sword if the right attention is not paid. It is interesting to note that many people think of water and sun enough to keep them splendid, but in reality the secret lies precisely in avoiding some trivial errors.
Before finding out which they are, it is convenient to immediately give a small practical advice: always observe the leaves and consistency of the soil. They are the ones who launch the first signs of suffering. So, ready to understand which daily gestures can they really make the difference?
Too much or too little water in surfinies
One of the most widespread mistakes concerns theSurfinies irrigation. It is believed that, being plants that love the sun, they need water in abundance and continues. But reality is more complex. These blooms want a constantly humid soil, not soup. The stagnant water, in fact, easily leads to radical rot that blocks growth and make the plant dry in a few days.
On the contrary, leaving the soil completely dry is equally harmful: surfinies do not tolerate long periods of drought and tend to lose vigor very quickly. A useful rule is to check with your fingers: if the first two centimeters of land are dry, it’s time to water. It seems trivial, but this small gesture can save a whole planter.
The right nourishment is missing
Another error that makes surfinies dry in the sun is the Bartilizing deficiency. These plants are among the most “hungry” ever: their continuous flowering requires large quantities of nutrients. It is therefore not enough to plant them in a good soil and hope that it lasts the whole season.
Many fans forget to integrate fertilizers rich in potassium and iron, two fundamental elements for an explosive flowering and to avoid yellowing of the leaves. It is interesting to observe that a well -nourished surfinia produces larger and resistant flowers in the intense sun. In order not to make mistakes, it is better to:
- use a specific liquid fertilizer every 7-10 days;
- Alternate potassium fertilizers with those rich in microelements;
- Avoid excessive doses, which risk burning the roots.
That’s why constant nourishment is perhaps the less obvious but more effective secret to make surfing last all summer.
Wrong vases and positions for surfing
Finally, an error often underestimated concerns the choice of pot and exposure. Surfinies love the sun, but they can’t stand the soil that overheats too much. Placing them in small containers, perhaps of thin plastic, means exposing the roots to temperature changes that compromise its health.
At the same time, keep them in too deep pots and without a good drainage leads to the same problems as water stagnation. The ideal location is in large containers with holes on the bottom, filled with light soil and enriched with sand or perlite. And if the days become torrid, it is better to offer a light shadow in the central hours, to prevent the direct sun from burning the most delicate flowers.
In many cases it is thought that the resistance of surfinies is absolute, but a wrong detail is enough, like a dark pot under the July sun, to accelerate its decline.
Taking care of surfinies does not mean complicating life: just knowing and correcting these small mistakes to transform any balcony into a cascade of colors.
Perhaps the real satisfaction lies precisely in being able to maintain these luxuriant plants until the last day of summer.
