Production of the uniform that would be the alternative of the selection began during management of Ednaldo Rodrigues, but was paralyzed by Samir Xaud
A red shirt of the Brazilian National Team in 2026 was vetoed amid a wave of criticism in the press and social networks, admitted on Tuesday (19) the president of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Samir Xaud. The leak for the press in April of a red prototype of the American manufacturer Nike reserve uniform has raised several questions a year from the general elections.
The red identifies the Workers Party, by President Luiz Inacio da Silva, while supporters of the former Mandanician often use, in demonstrations, the traditional green and yellow shirt of the national team, which is already classified for the 2026 World Cup.
“A lot of people took it to the political side. I didn’t take it to the political side, I took to the side of Brazil, the colors of the Brazilian flag. I believe that blue, yellow, green, white, they are the colors of our flag and are the colors that have to be followed,” Xaud told the channel SporTV. “I was totally against the issue of red, but not for political ideology. This I want to make it clear here,” said the leader.
Xaud added that he had a “emergency” meeting with Nike, a sports equipment supplier, and asked “production to be interrupted.” “Nike understood … and began the production of our second uniform, the blue shirt.”
The production of the red shirt, which would be the selection’s alternative uniform and would also replace the Nike logo with that of Air Jordan, began during the management of Ednaldo Rodrigues, who was dismissed from the CBF presidency. Xaud, 41, assumed he took office in May.
