Felizonda Festival celebrates cultures from Portugal and Ukraine in Lagos

O Municipality of Lagos announced that the city will host, between August 22 and 24, the 4th edition of the Felizonda Festival, an event dedicated to Ukrainian culture, which this year reinforces its union mission between the two peoples by also including activities linked to Portuguese culture.

In a statement, the municipality underlines that the festival, organized by-Ukrainian Community Support Association in Portugal, “stands out for the promotion of Ukraine culture and traditions and the solidarity aspect of support for this country affected by war”.

Music, Gastronomy and Traditions

The event will take place in the old preparatory cycle (in front of the City Hall building) and will feature a diversified program that includes music, dance, gastronomy, workshops, handicrafts and children’s animation.

According to the municipality, “in Lagos and Algarve, where a significant and participatory Ukrainian community resides, the festival also assumes a meeting of meeting and valuing this presence in local life”.

Over the three days, the public will be able to watch traditional games, theater and group shows linked to Ukrainian culture, such as the ‘As Stars’ Dance School, the Jasmin Project (traditional instrumental music) and the Shaleni Ukry group, which mixes sounds from traditional Ukrainian music with hip hop.

A meeting between cultures

“As a festival that brings together the two cultures, this edition will have a strong presence from Portugal,” says the municipal note. The Integrated Poster Concerts of the Harmonia Vocal Studio, Poor Man’s Band, DJ Franpe, Cel – Cel – Lagos Study Center Group, as well as performances by the Folkloric and Ethnographic Ranch of Odiáxere and Joana Rato, which will take Fado to the stage, accompanied by Cecílio Martins (Portuguese guitar) and Paulo Feiteira (Viola).

Coinciding with the event, the signing of the collaboration agreement will be signed
Municipalities of Lagos and Pivdenne (Ukraine), with the presence of Volodymyr
Novatskyy, president of the respective municipality, and Maryna Mykhailenko, ambassador of
Ukraine in Portugal, taking advantage of its coming to Lagos for the inauguration of the audioguia in
Ukrainian language at the Lagos Museum.

As a symbol of this connection, the Lagos City Council building will be lit with blue and yellow during the three days of the event.

With free admission, Felizonda promises to be “a solidarity celebration of culture, music and friendship”.
