Defense authorized offensive against Hamas; Mediators await Israeli response to the 60 -day respite
The Government of Israel approved on Wednesday (20.ago.2025) plan to take the city of Gaza and authorized the call of about 60,000 reservists for the operation.
The initiative of Defense Minister Israel Katz increases the pressure on the Hamas extremist group. Mediators try to enable a ceasefire in the nearly 2-year war in Gaza and await an official Israelian response to the latest proposal. The information was released by the agency AFP and reproduced by the channel .
The Plan mediated by Qatar and Egypt, based on a structure presented by the envoy of the United States, Steve Witkoff, and provides:
- 60 -day initial truce;
- staggered liberation of hostages;
- release of some Palestinian prisoners; and
- Measurements to allow help in gaza.
Israeli authorities claim that any agreement will depend on the release of all hostages, with guarantees that none be left behind.
The Prime Minister (Likud, right) has not publicly commented on the plan, but has said that he will only accept an agreement where all hostages are released at once.
Hamas Mahmoud’s manager Madawi stated that the group already “Open the door” for an agreement, but the decision now is up to Netanyahu, which on previous occasions would have “The door closed.”
Authorities in Gaza reported 48 dead in Israeli bombing this 3rd (19th) and described the situation as “Very dangerous and unbearable” in neighborhoods of the city of Gaza.
The Israeli army stated that it acts “To dissolve Hamas military capabilities, trying to minimize civil damage.”

The Israeli government did not disclose the date or the duration of the occupation of the city of Gaza. Netanyahu set 5 goals to end the conflict:
- Disarm Hamas;
- Ensure the return of all hostages – alive or dead;
- Promote the demilitarization of the Gaza Strip;
- Maintain security control of the Gaza range by Israel;
- Establish an alternative civil government other than Hamas or Palestinian Authority.
Hamas’s attack in October 2023 killed 1,219 people in Israel, mostly civilians.
The already left 62,064 killed in Gaza, according to the Ministry of Health of the Enclave, figures considered reliable by the UN (United Nations).
