In the metropolis of Fukuoka in the prefecture of the same name in the southwest of Japan, the local waterworks recently put the country’s first osmosis power plant into operation. The system is the second of its kind in practical use worldwide and is to generate 880 megawatt hours on electricity annually. According to the NHK Newsweb, this corresponds to the annual needs of 290 Japanese households. The structure of the facility cost 700 million yen, which is around 4.06 million euros.
