The imposed sanctions to four other judges and promoters of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday (20), including employees from allied countries, such as and, in a new attempt to obstruct the court. “The court is a threat to national security and has been an instrument of legal war against the US and our nearby ally,” said the US Secretary of State in a statement. Rubio claimed that the four jurists tried to investigate or process citizens from the United States or Israel “without the consent of either nations.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin celebrated the announcement on Wednesday. “It is a decisive action against the campaign of defamation and lies directed against the state of Israel (and its army) in favor of truth and justice,” Netanyahu said in a statement. The prime minister is the target of a prison order of the ICC for war crimes and humanity crimes since November 2024. Rubio also imposed sanctions on two deputy prosecutors: Fiji’s Nazhat Shameem Khan and Senegal’s Mame Mamee Niang. The State Department stated that the two were punished by the United States for supporting “illegitimate actions of the ICC against Israel,” including support for arrest warrants against Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. Rubio also imposed sanctions on four other TPI judges in June.

The Trump government vehemently rejected the court’s authority, which is supported by almost all European democracies and was established as a last court when national systems do not allow justice to be done.
