The Minister of the Supreme Federal Court, denied, on Tuesday (19), an appeal that asked for the release of Colonel Marcelo Câmara, former advisor of. “There is no possibility of replacement of pre -trial detention for diverse precautionary measures, because of its ineffectiveness to rule out the defendant’s periculum libertatis,” Moraes wrote by denying the defense’s appeal. The decision argues that, if released, Câmara could disrupt investigations into the attempted coup d’état.

The colonel was arrested in June for breaching an order that prohibited him from contacting other investigated, which would have occurred through his lawyer in conversations with Mauro Cid. Both Moraes and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) agree that the reasons for prison remain valid, citing the severity of the crimes and the need to protect the evidence of the process.
