Billionaire Elon Musk is discreetly braking plans to create a third political party and told allies that he wants to focus on his companies, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Musk is also reluctant to influence powerful republicans and consider using some of his vast financial resources to support US Vice President Jd Vance if he decides to run for, the newspaper said, citing people familiar with the matter.
Previously, Musk reported on his social networks that he had created a new party. “Today, the America party was formed to return you your freedom,” he wrote at X.
The action took place after the discontent of the billionaire owner of Tesla with the broad bill of Trump’s tax and spending bill to begin to be debated in the US Congress.
Jd Vance is regarded as Trump’s natural successor since, according to the American Constitution, the Republican cannot try a reelection in 2028. Thus, the vice president occupies a privileged position and is seen as a loyal member of the Trump administration.
In addition, the creation of a party faces legal and political challenges in the US. On American soil, acronyms are governed by laws and rules not only of the Federal Electoral Commission, but also from states, including the definition of which parties may appear in banknotes.
Despite variable levels of approval, party loyalties remain strong, Abramowitz, Alan Abramowitz, professor of political science at Emory University, told CNN, Especially among Republicans, who joined Trump.
Candidates may also be afraid. Democrats are unlikely to compete for the America because “Democrats hate Elon Musk,” Abramowitz said. And the Republicans “have clearly shown that they are much more attached to Donald Trump than Elon Musk.”
