Place for Eurovision 2026 revealed! The competition will take place near the Slovak border

The Austrian metropolis Vienna will again host the Eurovision song competition, The public service television ORF announced on Wednesday. The big final is scheduled for 16 May, cites the DPA news agency.

Eleven years after Vienna last welcomed this competition, the 70th euro of Eurovision will return to the capital of the country, who won the right to organize the competition thanks to the JJ victory (civil name Johannes Pietsch) in the year 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. Vienna succeeded in the candidacy of Innsbruck.

The capital, in which approximately two million people live, has submitted their candidacy under the motto “Europe, do we dance?” Vienna stressed her experience with Eurovision, reliable infrastructure and extensive hotel capacities. Meanwhile, Innsbruck led a campaign under the slogan “Together on top”, in which the Tirol city presented its dramatic alpine scenery as well as a modern multifunctional arena.

The arrangement of Eurovision usually promises economic growth, can increase the international profile of the city and attract tourists, As they showed examples of previous organizers – Liverpool, Malmö and Basel.

The Austrian metropolis will host a competition in Wiener Stadthalle, at the same place where Eurovision took place in 2015. With a capacity of 16,000 seats and without the need for additional construction work, the place is ideal for organizing the competition of this format. Vienna also emphasizes its robust infrastructure with more than 80,000 hotel beds, extensive public transport and international airport, which offers connections to more than 65 countries. Eurovision was held in Vienna in 1967. The Austrian winners of Eurovision are UDO Jürges (1966 with Merci, Cheri), Conchita Wurst (2014 with the song Rise Like and Phoenix) and JJ (2025 with Wasted Love).
