An unusual episode in Ibiza left clients and inappropriate Internet users. A client shared on social networks the account of a restaurant where a value of 12 euros was added by a table hook used to hang bags – an accessory that, according to the Facua Consumer Association, costs just over 1 euro on online sales sites.
The situation generated indignation, especially because, according to the client, the hook was offered by the employee during the meal, without any reference to additional costs. The surprise came only when receiving the invoice, leading her to question whether such a practice would be cool.
It quickly reacted it, classifying the case as an abusive practice and referring denunciation to the general management of the whaares. The association stressed that Spanish law obliges establishments to clearly and early inform any extra cost so that the consumer can decide whether or not to accept.
Given the wave of criticism, the Wakame restaurant presented a different explanation: according to the administration, the 12 euros do not correspond to a real charge, but to a “deposit” that appears in the system to remind the team to collect the object at the end of the service. Only in cases where the customer decides to keep the hook as a memory is that the amount is effectively charged.
Despite justification, the consumer association insists that the practice is misleading and can induce customers in error, as the item arises on the invoice without notice.
The episode quickly became viral on social networks, where there was no shortage of sarcastic comments. Many mocked the price, calling him “the Ibiza Golden Hook,” while others joked that, for this amount, the accessory should be accompanied by a luxury bag.
