Brazilian parliamentarians Marcel Van Hattem and Eduardo Girão, from the Novo Party, made a visit to the Penitentiary Criminal Penitentiary Complex, in Buenos Aires, where four Brazilians are detained and a Brazilian involved in the acts of January 8. The investigation is by Pedro Venceslau in the CNN 360º.
The parliamentarians stated that the visit was humanitarian and aimed to verify the conditions of the arrest. Van Hattem stated that the minimum conditions are being met, but seek to understand with the Argentine authorities the reasons why detainees do not await freedom the extradition request made by Brazil.
Among the prisoners is the correspondent of CNN In Buenos Aires, Luciana Taddeo, last Thursday (14). She reported being in a pavilion with 11 people, without sunbathing, and living with detainees for crimes such as drug trafficking. Souza also reported that he was forced to consume improper water, which caused him intestinal problems.
Ana Paula de Souza was arrested after breaking the electronic anklet in Brazil and fleeing by bus to Argentina. She awaits judgment of the extradition process and expressed resentment for the lack of support from the Brazilian opposition.
Despite the political connection between detainees’ supporters and President Javier Milei, the Argentine government has not dealt with the case as a state issue. Milei does not mention the situation of Brazilians in their speeches or social networks, leaving the resolution of the case to the court, based on the existing treaties between the two countries.
The expectation in the legal and political media is that Brazilians will be deported to serve a sentence in Brazil, until there is a definitive sentence of the Federal Supreme Court.
