A marriage proposal in Guatemala gained dramatic and impressive contours when the Fuego volcano erupted for the moment. The episode took place in early June, on a track near Guatemala City, and the video quickly became viral.
In the images, the young man appears kneeling in front of his girlfriend, displaying the engagement ring, and a few seconds after asking “Do you want to marry me?” The volcano eruption in the background is observed. Fuego is the most active volcano in Central America, located about 50 kilometers from the capital Guatemaca.
The video has won thousands of views and comments on social networks, although the identity of the bride and groom was not revealed. Among the reactions, expressions emerged as “the earth literally trembled for this love” or “a love as intense as an eruption.”
The rash began on the night of June 4 and lasted more than 30 hours, ending on the morning of June 6, according to the National Institute of Seismology, Vulcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology of Guatemala. Hundreds of people had to be removed from five communities in the departments of Chimaltenango, Escuintla and Sacatepequez.
Fuego had already triggered a tragedy on June 3, 2018, when a lava cloud hit San Miguel Los Lot village, causing 215 deaths. Currently, Guatemala has two other active volcanoes: Santiaguito, in the west, and Pacaya, to the south of the country.
