The Foreign Minister of Egypt, Badr Abdelathy, approached the United States special envoy on Wednesday, Steve Witkoff, the situation in the Gaza Strip and stressed the need to move towards the end of the war in the Palestinian enclave after Hamas accepted the truce proposal. In a telephone conversation, the head of the Egyptian diplomacy remarked “the need to take advantage of the current opportunity presented by the acceptance by Hamas of the US proposal to move towards the end of this unfair war, which has lasted almost two years,” according to the spokesman of the Egyptian ministry, Tamim Khallaf, in a statement. Abdelaty proposed “using the proposed truce period of sixty days to negotiate the end of the war and lay the foundations for a fair solution of the Palestinian issue.” He also highlighted the “fundamental importance” of Israel’s response to the proposal and its implementation to “address the current crisis, save the lives of hostages, relieve the suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza and guarantee the flow of aid in sufficient amounts to meet the needs of the Palestinian people, subject to a systematic policy of famine.”
