The president of, (Union-AP), complained about political polarization on Wednesday (20) and said, in a tone of outburst, that he and the mayor, (-PB), are crushed between the poles. According to him, humanity lives its most delicate moment.
“We are being crushed. Because at all times President Hugo and I are being summoned and even threatened to choose the side. Either we have to position ourselves in favor of the government or have to position ourselves against the government,” said the Senate President.
“I miss the debate in the Federal Senate plenary and what are in favor of Brazil. We are living a permanent process of election,” said Alcolumbre.
“We are living an constant electoral war. This is not interested in this electoral war. And it doesn’t matter to most Brazilians,” he said. According to him, most people are “terrified of manifesting” because of polarization.
The senator mentioned, without mentioning names at the beginning of the month. “We live in a moment, in the return of recess, very delicate in the history of the Brazilian nation, democracy,” he said.
“We have been living from the last election a crazy aggression to democratic and republican institutions. And I am in their midst,” said Alcolumbre, mentioning having an obligation to defend the prerogatives of the legislature.
Alcolumbre made the statements in the National Congress during the launch of the book “Memories and Testimonies-Political Revelations”, by former Senator Edison Lobão. Hugo Motta was also at the ceremony.
The Senate President said he often says Motta to be firm and do his job “with the absolute certainty that the other day in the morning we will continue to be attacked.”
Alcolumbre, which is Jewish, also said it has been the target of religious attacks on social networks. “The last time this started, they killed more than 6 million people,” he said, in reference to the Holocaust.
“It’s not possible. ‘You have to eliminate this because they haven’t solved everything many years ago,'” said the Senate President, in apparent reference to some religious attack he received.
