On the night of this Wednesday (08/20), Arrascaeta shared Beira-Rio’s nets, consolidating his Carrasco status from Internacional. It was the midfielder’s fourth goal against 14 matches, adding games for Flamengo and Cruzeiro.
The Uruguayan, curiously, could have started his career in Brazil defending the gaucho club, but fate went another way.
Arrascaeta almost went to Inter
Between the end of 2014 and early 2015, Arrascaeta, then highlight by Defensor Sporting, was very close to wearing Inter’s shirt. The gaucho club, with the support of investor Delcir Sonda, offered 4 million euros (approximately R $ 10.4 million at the time) in four installments. However, Cruzeiro entered the negotiation, paid in the view and guaranteed the Uruguayan, frustrating the colorado.
At the time, then -President Vitorio Piffero summed up the situation with a striking phrase: “Arrascaeta would be reserve, and expensive for a reserve.” The statement gained repercussion, especially because it involves expressive figures and the context of the Colorado Group, which had names such as Aránguiz, Alex and D’Alessandro.
Brightness in Brazilian football
After his spell at Cruzeiro, where he won the 2017 and 2018 Brazilian Cups, Arrascaeta caught the attention of Flamengo, who in 2019 paid 15 million euros (R $ 63.7 million at the time) for the midfielder’s economic rights. Since then, the Uruguayan has become a central piece of Red-Black, helping the team win two Libertadores, two Brazilian and two World Cups.
This year, shirt 10 has 15 goals scored and nine assists in the season.
