Ukraine has a new long -range missile. Manages to travel three thousand kilometers
Ukraine has taken a decisive step in its defense strategy by revealing the “Flamingo” long -range cruise missile or, as has been said by the military experts, the greatest missile to be produced by Ukrainians. It was developed in the country and is already in series production, hoping that it can be available to the Army later this year.
Major-General Jorge Saramago explains to CNN Portugal the difference that this weapon can introduce to the battlefield: “It has an ogive of 1,150 pounds. To get an idea, the unmanned drones that Ukraine has used against Russian infrastructures have explosive heads of 50 to 100 kilos of explosion at most.”
In practice, this weapon, which can travel up to three thousand kilometers away, carries more than 10 times more explosive charge than a conventional drone used by Kiev.
Despite the potential impact, there is still no official information about Flamingo’s operational use schedule. The Ukrainian army did not comment on the reported production.
Flamingo has a range of three thousand kilometers, which makes it capable of reaching not only Moscow – located about 700 kilometers from the front line – but they are also Petersburg and “the entire industrial structure that Russia has in the western part of the territory,” says the Major General.
The note that the strategic importance of this weapon goes beyond range: “Long -range weapons produced internally is of great importance to Ukraine’s defense strategy, as Western partners have been slow to deliver appropriate weapons in the face of increasing Russian attacks and offensive.”
Since November 2024 that Ukraine has increased by internal weapons production. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on April 16 that over 40% of the front line weapons are produced in Ukraine, including over 95% of the drones used on the battlefield.
