Dried turf does not always mean that the grass died. In many cases, the blades only retired, protecting the roots from drought. You can save the lawn burned with sun, quickly providing it with water. Watering should be abundant and rare so that the water reaches deep to the roots.
Instead of daily sprinkling for a few minutes, it is better to water every two or three days for half an hour. The best time is early morning or late evening, when the sun does not burn the leaves and the water does not evaporate so quickly. Also remember about weeding, some plants cope better in hot weather than grass and can compete with the lawn with nutrients.
Watering alone is not everything. The soil after drought becomes compact, so it’s worth aerated. Take a garden fork or a special aerator, which will make small holes in turf and help roots access to oxygen and water. In places where the lawn has suffered quite, the freak will work well. It’s best to use drought -resistant mixtures and high temperatures. After sowing seeds, it is enough to gently cover them with a thin layer of soil and water regularly.
Our first thought at the sight of burned grass is nutrition. Fertilization of the lawn immediately after heat is not the best idea. The soil is compact, and tired turf is not able to absorb nutrients immediately. Too high a dose of fertilizer will hurt more at such a moment of the lawn than it helps. The first fertilization after hot weather is best done only when the grass begins to green and regenerate clearly.

When the turf regains strength, it is worth thinking about preventive measures. In recent years, the heat is in our climate no surprise and it is worth protecting the lawn against them. The turf should not be mowed too shortbecause the higher blades effectively protect the soil from drying out. Regular watering, even on less hot days, allows the roots to develop deeper, thanks to which they will lift the lack of water better. If the heat repeats every year, consider installing a simple irrigation system. This will make the watering even and less time consuming.
