A rare phenomenon illuminated the sky of western Japan on Tuesday night: a “exceptionally brilliant” meteor, known as fireball, was spotted by several people, especially in the cities of Kagoshima and Miyazaki, around 23h00 local (15h00 in Lisbon). The moment was recorded on video and quickly shared on social networks.
According to Japanese television station NHK, witnesses reported having seen an intense ball of light falling from the sky, which, experts, said, will have finished in the sea.
The sky was shining in Kagoshima City, but is it a meteorite?

Maeda Toshihisa, director of the Sendai Setsumasendai Space Museum, explained that these fireballs are caused by dust, asteroid fragments, and other spatial objects that set fire to entering the earth’s atmosphere, creating an impressive luminous show.
