Parliamentarian told young Pan that former president ‘knew everything’ about the irregularities and should provide clarification
The deputy (PT-MG) filed an application to summon the former president to testify in the INSS Parliamentary Mixed Parliamentary Commission (CPMI). According to the parliamentarian, Bolsonaro “knew everything” about the irregularities and must provide clarification. Correia also said he hoped that the testimony will take place after September 13, when, in his assessment, the Supreme Court will have already concluded trial that may result in the conviction of the former president.
The initiative must intensify the political confrontation in the commission. Government parliamentarians defend the call, while Bolsonaro’s allies promise to block the proposal. The rapporteur and president of CPMI, both close to the former president, should also avoid voting on the request. INSS fraud had already been reported in 2018 during the government transitional period. In response, Bolsonaro issued a provisional measure at the beginning of his mandate to try to contain the problem. Critics, however, say the Federal Police should have been called to deepen the investigations.
