Brasilia serves this week a political feast watered with presidential intentions, strategic alliances and a hint of institutional disagreement.
Behind the scenes, the MDB rehearses a new novel with Republicans, still packed by the launch, this last Tuesday (19), the superfederation between União Brasil and Republicans.
The main course? A country plan called “Brazil needs to think Brazil”.
Captained by MDB parliamentarians, the Ulysses Guimarães Foundation and the former ally of petist governments Aldo Rebelo, the document proposes six axes of debate: education, human mobility, public safety, international policy, sustainability and health.
Sources of Congress heard in recent days state that if the MDB confirms adherence to Republicans, the text may help consolidate a unit around Tarcísio de Freitas to 2026.
The movement is seen as strategic by Caciques of the MDB, a party that was a protagonist of the national policy when he still attended by PMDB – which, for decades, was synonymous with governability and articulation in Congress.
The PMDB was a key piece in several governments, occupying ministries, chamber and Senate Presidencies, and being the faithful of the balance in decisive voting.
With the change of name and scandal -accumulated wear and loss of electoral base, the MDB saw its mining influence.
Now the potential approach with Republicans and support to Tarcisio are seen as an opportunity to reposition the subtitle in a prominent place.
“The MDB has strong adherence to the name of Tarcisio,” confide interlocutors, pointing out programmatic affinities and the expectation that the São Paulo governor could be the catalyst of a new center-right coalition.
With the popularity of Lula far from what petistas would like, and Tarcisio emerges as the name that, according to interlocutors, “is being forced to do what he wants most”: to play the presidency.
While the Bolsanist right faces its own disagreements, the center-right sees nods for a new national project. And like every good political dinner, the taste of alliances can be as striking as the bitterness of ruptures.
