Finance Minister Fernando Haddad praised the conduct of Vice-President of the Republic and Minister of Development, Industry and Commerce, Geraldo Alckmin, on dealing with the tariffs applied by the United States to Brazilian products. The speech was made during the 9th edition of the Tourism Hall, this Thursday, 21, in the Anhembi district, in São Paulo. The event was also attended by Alckmin, along with ministers Silvio Costa Filho, ports and airports, and Celso Sabino, from Tourism.
“It is very important to have a person up to represent us, who does not lower their heads to scream and disaffection, who knows how to put himself, who knows how to defend national interests and who knows the importance that Brazil has in the world,” said Haddad.
The minister also pointed out that the growth of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 3% per year is very important. “We doubled our average growth in three years of government,” he said.
According to Haddad, when tourism grows, it is a sign that the economy is also healthy and well. “When tourism goes well, it is a sign that unemployment is low, that inflation is being controlled, that the worker’s income, especially from the lower layers, which earn between four to five minimum wages, is thriving. It is a sign that we are looking for a slightly fairer country,” he said.
At the end of his speech, Haddad stressed that he had a scheduled schedule in the city of Sorocaba (SP) along with the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, but clarified that his trip to the Tourism Hall was a request from Lula himself, to reinforce how much the government cares about the sector.
“Lula said I needed to come to talk about what tourism means to our government. The importance we give to this activity and the meaning we have to make people travel more, get to know each other, interact more,” said the Minister of Finance.
