Castilla y León | Intense night work in Porto’s fire (Zamora)
The extinction services have carried out intense work during the last night to combat the flames in the forest fire of Porto (Zamora), which approaches the towns of Moncabril, Ribadelago Viejo and Ribadelago Nuevo through the Canyon of the Cárdenas, without even reaching those evacuated populations.
Among other points, the night work of extinction, facilitated by the decrease in temperatures and the increase in moisture during the night, have focused on that tongue of fire that went down the Canyon of Cárdenas towards Lake Sanabria, according to sources from the extinction operation. The orography of the terrain makes it difficult to stop the fire with the terrestrial media in some areas.
The forecasts suggest that from eight in the morning the aerial media can already work as they could do on Wednesday, which helped stop the progress of the flames.
The fire maintains a dozen populations evacuated after burning more than 10,000 hectares, according to estimates of the Copernicus satellite system, mainly from the Natural Park of Lake Sanabria, Sierras de Segondera and Porto, in Zamora, and the Valley of the Caseio de Ourense and the surroundings of the Lake of the Bath of León.
