Washington (Reuters)-Microsoft () reported on Wednesday that it reduced access by some Chinese companies to the early warning system for cyber security vulnerabilities ,.
The new restrictions come in the wake of last month’s invasion at Microsoft’s SharePoint servers. This has raised suspicions among several cyber security experts that there was a leakage in Microsoft’s active protection program that Microsoft uses to help security suppliers around the world, including China, to know cyber threats before the general public so they can defend themselves better against hackers.

Beijing denied involvement in any invasion of SharePoint.
Microsoft notified members of the MAPP program on SharePoint vulnerabilities on June 24, July 3 and July 7, as previously reported by Reuters. As Microsoft said it observed attempts for the first time on July 7, the moment led some experts to claim that the most likely scenario for the sudden explosion of invasion attempts was the fact that a MAPP member had improperly used information.
Microsoft said in a statement that several Chinese companies would no longer receive the “concept code” that mimics the operation of genuine malicious software. Concept proof code can help cyber security professionals who seek to strengthen their systems quickly, but can also be reused by hackers to get an initial advantage.
