A passenger who started his trip in Rio Branco, Acre, was arrested by the Federal Police (PF) on Wednesday afternoon (20) at Fortaleza International Airport, after being caught carrying 13.3 kilos of cocaine in his hand luggage.

According to the PF, the man embarked in the Acrean capital towards Brasilia, where he made a connection to Lamam’s La3730 flight, which went to Ceará. During a routine inspection at landing, the agents noticed the passenger’s nervousness in the face of the police presence and decided to approach it for an interview.
Asked, the suspect said he was on a leisure trip, but could not report the amount of the airfare, claiming that the purchase had been made by a family member. Faced with inconsistencies, police officers inspected the suitcase, finding several tablets with cocaine -like substance. The material underwent preliminary analysis, which confirmed the narcotic.
Still according to the agents, the man tried to justify himself by saying that his suitcase was not his and that he would have been confused as he removed it from the aircraft. The version, however, did not convince, and he was arrested in the act.
The accused was taken to the Federal Police Superintendence in Ceará, where the appropriate procedures were formalized. He must be responsible for drug trafficking and interstate trafficking, crimes provided for in articles 33 and 40, item I, of Law No. 11,343/2006, which may result in a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.
The Federal Police said they will continue to investigate the origin and destination of the drug, as well as possible connections of the suspect with criminal organizations acting in the transport of narcotics between states.
