The municipality of Portimão announced that the surround Portimão returns to its 6th edition and promises to be the largest ever. “More space, more chefs, more days and an unprecedented start that will open the appetite to the whole city,” says the municipality.

The festival starts September 5 with the great rice – limited edition, an exclusive partnership with Bom Sucesso. From 18:00, five chefs feature five distinct interpretations of the traditional dish, “from the most classic to the most unexpected,” says the municipality. Each recipe will have only 350 doses available, which is why the organization advises to arrive early.

Among the proposals include the sea rice of Joaquim Saragga Leal (The Parrots, Lisbon), the Uramaki Yuso with Miso, Salmon and Avocado de Afonso Alves (Mezze, Lisbon), Paella Valenciana de Miguel Beja (Lisbon), the Makluba of Rice of Spices, Beringla and Capão de António Moniz, Mizu, PORCHES) and Sweet Rice with cinnamon ice cream and textures of rice and lemon by Nuno Martins (Num, Portimão).

On September 6 and 7, the Alameda da Praça da República becomes the largest outdoor gastronomy stage in the country, bringing together 29 chefs. “The highlight goes to the Algarve, with 10 projects from the region, of which five are from Portimão, in a faithful portrait of local gastronomic wealth,” says the municipality.

Among the premieres is the U Venâncio restaurant, which will present the plate of the crowd to Tiborna, inspired by sardines, the iconic product of the city. The poster also includes names such as Paulo Alves (Lisbon), Maurício Vale (Lisbon), Rui Lima (Santarém) and Maumau Horsth (Braga), along with Algarvios Rui Mira, David Monteiro, Albano Félix, Nuno Martins and Alípio Branco.

On Sunday, award -winning chefs such as Luís Brito (A View Tavira), Rodolfo Lavrador (Cura, Lisbon) and Rui Filipe (Palatial, Braga). Portimão will have a strong representation with Francisco Cristelo (U Venâncio), João Marreiros (Loki), Emídio Freire (Faina) and Leandro Silva & Catarina Monteiro (Duoo Gastro Theater).

According to the municipality, it gets it “is much more than a festival: it is a living showcase of the new Portuguese cuisine and a manifesto of democratization of gastronomy”. The high cuisine “leaves the restaurants and arrives on the street, with free admission and 7.5 euros dishes, available between 18:00 and 23:00, without reserve, dress code or barriers”.

This year’s edition bets on a diverse offer, with Portuguese best Farmer filling, fresh local fish, vegetarian options and exclusive desserts of four different chefs each day.

The animation also includes DJs, mechanical bull, strumming and a party environment that extends “to the last dish”.

Organized by Amuse Bouche and Portimão City Council, the excitement was created in 2020, in full pandemic, and has passed through Alentejo, Idanha-a-Nova, Guarda and Famalicão. In 2021 he won the Great Gastronomy Award of the Portuguese Academy of Gastronomy and, in 2024, became the only gastronomy festival in Europe with biological certification, through Idanha Bio.

The event takes place on September 5, 6 and 7, at Alameda da Praça da República, in Portimão, with free admission.
