Šefčovič recalled in front of journalists in Brussels that Brussels has pushed for significant exceptions, whether for aircraft, generic drugs, chemical precursors and the like, with the EU and the United States exploring the possibility of expanding these exceptions for further sectors.
Key commitments of both parties include the general application of a maximum 15 % customs ceiling for EU products covered by reciprocal dutiesThe US commitment is that the export of drugs, semiconductors and wood from the EU will be included in this customs ceiling. Both parties have agreed to work on joint solutions to protect their economies from excessive supply capacity in the steel and aluminum sector and to create safe supply chains, also through solutions for customs quotas.
Both Brussels and Washington promote a mutual commitment to reduce poor barriers, as well as through cooperation in norms and streamlining sanitary and phytosanitarian certificates and facilitating mutual recognition of conformity assessment in other industrial sectors.
The agreement also applies to cooperation in the field of digital trade and moratories at duties in e -commerce and strengthened cooperation in the field of economic security (investment review, export control, fight against Nonrh’s policies and practices).
The EU wants to increase its energy security and resistance in the field of critical raw materials, which will be helped by transatlantic purchases of LNG, oil, supply for the nuclear industry (purchases for 700 billion euros over three years), but also semiconductors (purchases for € 40 billion).
