The game between Independiente and Universidad de Chile for the round of 16 of the South American Cup on Wednesday (20) in Avellaneda, Argentina, was suspended early in the second half due to widespread confusion among fans in the stands of the Libertadores de América Stadium.

At least ten people were injured and 90 were arrested. Conmebol canceled the match on 48 minutes due to lack of security.

The game was tied 1-1 when it was suspended by referee Gustavo Tejera. The players then left the field.

Conmebol reported that the case would be referred to the judicial bodies and that the information about the incident would be sent to the Disciplinary Committee.

Chilean President Gabriel Boric made a statement on social networks condemning violence.

“What happened is wrong in so many ways, from violence in the stands to the obvious irresponsibility in the organization,” he wrote. “Justice must determine who are responsible. Now our priority as a government is to find out the condition of our compatriots who have been attacked, ensure that they receive immediate medical care and that those who have been detained have their rights respected.”

Boric said he instructed the Chilean ambassador to visit fans detained in police stations and those being treated in hospitals in the Argentine capital.

In April, a Chilean classic between Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo was postponed after two young fans died in a riot during a Copa Libertadores match.

The Salvemos group will save football cataloge more than 350 football -related deaths in Argentina in the last century.
